Dairy Leadership Program and Peer Groups
Minnesota Milk's Membership Development Committee is working on a Dairy Leadership Program. If you want to get involved and help develop this program, e-mail MMPA at mmpa@mnmilk.org or call toll-free 1-877-577-0741 today!

Some Identified Opportunities for a Leadership Program Include:
  • Facilitate dairy producer 'Peer Groups' across the state. MMPA would coordinate locations, speakers and notices concerning 'peer group' meetings. Only MMPA members will be able to be involved. MMPA will send out note cards asking producers if they are interested and details concerning their operation. From that information, producer groups will be formed, facilitators identified and action plans developed by the group.
  • Enhance/develop media and communication skills to help existing dairy producers feel comfortable talking with the media and publicly promoting our industry. MMPA will work with Midwest Dairy Association to provide this periodic training. MMPA will provide opportunities for dairy leaders to participate in events with media, elected officials, testifying at the Capitol, summer picnics and other events that further promote the dairy industry.
  • Offer a special program during the Midwest Dairy Expo to those identified in the Peer Groups, perhaps soliciting sponsorship of the function. Those attending may have access to additional sponsored incentives, or high-value information. For example, a Leadership Breakfast featuring a special workshop or speaker.
  • Develop a sponsored award program for Dairy Leadership, perhaps replacing Producer of the Year. Solicit nominees from each Peer Group.
  • Develop leadership list as a resource for industry organizations; provide encouragement/endorsement for developed leaders to seek positions on boards, committees, short-term.
  • Provide MMPA leaders to dairy youth through the University of MN Crookston and St. Paul, as well as Ridgewater and other appropriate institutions as speakers or participants in applicable programming. Turnkey presentations for a producer to deliver, or resource kit on MMPA programs. Position MMPA as a mentor to developing dairy producers and employees.
  • Provide value to employees of producers in some innovative way -- recognition program, personal development program, networking, as a chargeable item.
