As 2016 begins and new plans are made, chances are you’re reviewing your successes and challenges during 2015. Five things to think about based on the past year’s market forces:

  1. Risk Management Matters – But there’s no single approach.

Inside Dairies with 2,500+ Cows (Dairy Herd Management)

The University of Minnesota examined the animal welfare, management and economics of a cross-section of 15 dairies with more than 2,500 cows in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The herd size average 4,972, and the 15 dairies were a full one-third of such operations in the region. They generated an average profit of $1.4 million per farm, not including non-milk income. Read more about these dairies.
