Why The Nature Conservancy Loves Farmers

Speaker: Leif Fixen, Agriculture Strategy Manager

Farmers and ranchers are vital to our way of life. They grow our food and produce fuel, fiber, and building materials for our society. As stewards of the majority of our country, they (you) are among our greatest conservation allies. This session will cover TNC’s collaborative, science-based approach and programming for working with farmers and ranchers here in MN to help feed a growing population while ensuring clean and abundant water supplies, healthy lands, and a stable climate.  Specific topics to be covered include: the conservation value of ruminants on the landscape, how ag retailers and agronomists fit into conservation, and how ecosystem services markets (carbon and water quality credits) can be a scalable financial driver for conservation practices.
