Dairy Management Workshops Kick off Feb. 16

​Minnesota Milk Producers’ annual Dairy Management Workshops begin on Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Rochester at the International Event Center. The agenda includes a panel on solutions to ag plastics and recycling, followed by ideas to raise profits during low prices. A legislative update, and the dairy, beef and grain situation and outlook is also part of the agenda. Additional dates and locations include Perham on Wed., Feb. 17, at The Cactus, and Hutchinson on Thurs., Feb. 18 at the Crow River Winery. Read more.


Women in Ag Conference is Feb. 18 in St. Cloud (University of Minnesota Extension)

A conference designed for women working on the farm in production agriculture, as well as those in the ag industry, is scheduled for Feb. 18 in St. Cloud at the Kelly Inn. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features speaker Dr. Robert Milligan addressing strategic leadership to grow and succeed. Additional topics for the day include farm communications, farm transition, payroll and tax planning, and farm image. The cost is $45 online. Read more.


Education Award Available to Dairy Managers (National Dairy Shrine Chronicle)

The National Dairy Shrine is taking applications for a Progressive Commercial Dairy Manager Grant. The award of $2,000 for education will be given to an individual, couple, owner or operating partner who has management savvy and leadership roles in the industry, and is between ages 21 and 50. Applicants can nominate themselves or someone else. The application form can be found on the National Dairy Shrine website.


Value Added Grant Deadline is March 8 (Minnesota Department of Ag)

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture offers grants to help farmers, producers and processors add value to their operations and the state’s economy. Activities that qualify include starting, expanding or updating livestock product processing; purchasing equipment to start, upgrade or modernize a business; increasing farm food safety; increasing processing and capacity for new sales targets; or increasing the use and processing of Minnesota agricultural products. Midwest Dairy and Minnesota Milk Partner for Foley Meeting

Midwest Dairy’s checkoff meeting in Foley on Wed., Feb. 3, will include Dr. Marin Bozic providing the dairy, beef and grain situation and outlook, courtesy of Minnesota Milk. The meeting takes place beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Henry’s Event Center, and concludes with a complimentary lunch at 12:30 p.m. To RSVP, call 1-877-577-0741.
